Welcome to the eight issue of PWA Newsletter!
First, the big news: I'm seeking technical readers to proofread my upcoming book, Progressive Web Apps with React. I just completed the first draft and I'm quite proud of it, but need your help to make it the best it can be. Want to build a deployed React app with all the benefits of a Progressive Web App? Hit reply and say "I'm interested!" to find out more—no prior React or PWA experience needed!
The second big news: PWA Newsletter will now be sent out on a monthly basis, vs the weekly model I've been using up until now.
Why the switch? I want to make sure this newsletter is just brimming with useful articles, projects, and tutorials, without any filler. Less frequent issue === more useful issues, with everything you need to stay up to date with the world of PWAs.
With that out of the way, let's talk performance. Better mobile performance leads to more customer acquisition. At least, that was Flipkart's experience. As for Uber (internal turmoil aside), they pulled out all the stops to make their mobile site as fast as possible, even with a React-based UI.
But before you get started thinking about how to optimize your bundle, read up on why perceived speed matters, thanks to a lovely little document by Awwwards and Google. This PDF is about as comprehensive as it gets.
As always, thanks for reading.
